Think Global, Act Local: Announcing the Xos Community Action Program and Our Partnership with Los Angeles Mission
Xos recognizes that the long-term health of our company is directly related to the health of the planet and local communities. We have our sights set on making an impact worldwide by decarbonizing transportation. With that said, we’re also keenly aware of the obstacles and issues that exist on a smaller scale in our own backyard and hometown of Los Angeles.
We want to positively engage with and give back to the communities where we work and live. We care deeply about building a sustainable future that includes environmental health and economic stability, which is why, today, we’re proud to announce the launch of the Xos Community Action Program.
As part of the Xos Community Action Program, we’re partnering with organizations on the front lines of major issues. To kick off our efforts, we’re teaming up with Los Angeles Mission, a nonprofit organization focused on providing emergency services, food, and support to individuals experiencing homelessness and food insecurity in Los Angeles County.
Partnering with Los Angeles Mission
Our first community partner is Los Angeles Mission. Their goal is to disrupt the cycle of poverty and homelessness in Los Angeles County, where currently, over 63,000 people have reported experiencing homelessness.
Los Angeles Mission provides emergency services free of charge to those in need, including three hot meals each day, overnight shelter, clean clothing, showers, and temporary storage for personal belongings. The LA Mission also offers skills training and career development to help individuals build self-sufficiency and prepare for life outside of the Mission.
Los Angeles Mission first came to Xos through our Program Coordinator, Winter Fate Morvant, who started volunteering there in 2018:
“Introducing my Xos team to the Los Angeles Mission was a no-brainer. At Xos, we’re committed to making our communities healthier places to live by decarbonizing transportation. Part of that commitment includes helping our neighbors with the resources they need to support their families and create better futures.”
Winter approached her involvement with LA Mission from a community standpoint:
“This isn’t ‘charity work,’ this is lending a helping hand to our neighbors.
That sentiment really hit home for me. I’m thankful to have been able to organize food and supply drives for the LA Mission every year in addition to often donating baked breakfast goods from my own bakery, Winter Fate Bakes.”
LA Mission Food Drive and Delivery of 10,000 Meals: Powered by Xos
As part of our partnership with the Mission, our employees are contributing food donations through a company-wide food drive during the month of November. Those donations will be loaded up into one of our zero-emission electric stepvans and delivered to distribution sites on Friday, November 19th.
On the same day, we’ll be delivering 6,000 meals to four school distribution sites throughout LA where families of the students will be able to pick up a box for their Thanksgiving meal. We’ll be participating in a second event on Sunday, November 21st where we’ll drive an Xos electric stepvan to deliver 4,000 meals.
Our efforts are part of LA Mission’s Race to Feed initiative, which aims to give out 300,000 meals in 60 days to those in need during the holiday season. As part of that goal, celebrity chef Michael Voltaggio will be helping distribute meals made from his own recipes during the Sunday event.
We’re extremely grateful for our partners at LA Mission and look forward to joining them in future events to give back.
